Artifacts (2019). The images in this project are created using a flatbed scanner. Individual scans are composited to form life-scale representations of my body. Each piece carries evidence of its making. Colorful aberrations, distortion, and extreme light fall-off are all produced through the scanning process. Because each scan takes time to capture, small movements - my breath, the tremor of muscles - are recorded as wavering lines and interruptions within the image.
Through scanning and assembling each work, I emphasize my position as both creator and subject. The body that emerges is contingent, formed through duration, movement, and the limitations of a machine used beyond its designed intent.
